Password protection
Who this is for
Teams and creators who need to restrict access to specific short links, QR codes, or pages — for example, internal resources, preview links, gated content, or confidential campaigns.
Before you start
- You need a Plus plan or above. Password protection is not available on Free or Go plans.
- Passwords are stored securely as hashed values and are never visible in the dashboard or API responses.
What to do — Set a password on a link
- Open Dashboard and create or edit a short link.
- Expand Advanced Settings.
- In the Password Protection section, enter your desired password.
- Save or create the link.
When a visitor clicks the link, they see a branded password prompt. After entering the correct password, they are redirected to the destination.
What to do — Set a password on a QR code
QR codes point to short links. Setting a password on a QR code sets it on the underlying link.
- Create or edit a QR code.
- Enter a password in the Password Protection field.
- Save.
Scanning the QR code opens the password prompt before redirecting.
What to do — Set a password on a page
- Create or edit a Smart Page.
- Enter a password in the page settings.
- Save and publish.
Visitors see the password prompt before the page content loads.
What to do — Remove a password
To remove password protection, edit the asset and clear the password field (or send password: null via the API).
Use it well
- Share passwords securely. Do not include the password in the same message as the link.
- Combine with expiry. Use password protection together with link expiry for time-limited secure access.
- API and MCP support. Set or clear passwords programmatically via the Client API v1 or MCP tools using the
passwordfield.
